In 1926, Kenjiro Takayanagi, known as the "father of Japanese television," transmitted the image of a katakana character (?) to a TV receiver built with a cathode ray tube, signaling the birth of the world's first all-electronic television. Last week, in a symbolic gesture over 80 years later, researchers from Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Burton Inc. and Hamamatsu Photonics K.K.. displayed the same katakana character using a 3D projector that generates moving images in mid-air. This technollogy is expected to replace TV, advertisement on street, Phone screen for video call, and so on as screen subtitude.

But, let me add some of my points and understanding after reading and searching many webs and books about its advantages and effects in the societies... Until recently the hologram and holographic illusion was only visible from front and side viewing angles. but, a new design team has created a new model that is visible from viewing points and surrounding. In fact, Holographic displays are an eye catching addition which beside other places and ceremonies, mostly can be used for the business field and any trade show and exhibitions. Imagine your logo, virtual sales rep or product image floating in mid air delivering your sales message to potential clients and see how beneficial might be the affect.
These days, in the competitive trade shows and environment it's very important to attract and gain the attention of others to your company's products and activities. However, holographic Illusions are an exciting and entertaining way to get your booth noticed. These hologram illusions feature stunning visual and audio effects to draw clients to your business.
Overall, hologram can bring benefits to the society especially in the business field. But, when i said business; it doesn’t mean we can't use them to other places... as you said, soon it can be replace with the TVs and Projectors advertisement on street, Phone screen for video call, and so on as screen substitutes. tnx

The challenge for scientist is to materialise what Hollywood depicted as future screen which show moving colourful images on air. Finally, Japanese scientists discovered a way to show a real hologram from monotone static pictures. This one step closer to achieve the greatest technology in human history.
AIST resources claimed: • We have used laser produced plasma technology to make a flashpoint in the air. • We have greatly improved the brightness, contrast, and production distance of the plasma by optimizing the laser beams. • Using a laser plasma, we have been the first to succeed in displaying "real 3D images" in a space where there is nothing but air

Actually, for the first time when i watched a movie about "HOLOGRAM" and also some clips from youtubes it looked like a real image for me... honestly, it was amazing... this is why sometimes its called as "Pipe-Deam".
In my point of view such invention might bing much benefits to for our societies and might bright and light the future darkness... what I means it will make the world a beautiful and coulorful place to live.
I also think like you guys. this Holography technique will ease other technology to use such as the size of Laptop TV will be more shorter and portable. we will get rid of big bill board, monitor etc. but have you ever thought about the side affect of Holography? It will use different lager light that may cause censer or other diseases. So better we do more recharge on Holography, which will not effect human being or nature.
I agree with your comments, I only want to add something. firstly, hologram is made by bathing a 3 dimensional object in the powerful beam/ray of liser light. Holgraphy poens vast new creaive posibilities through new visual reality and it allows artists to produce work that would be impossible in any other standard.
That's right my brothers, I may agree with your points. Some said it has sound effect, but the real thing is it has sound effect whenever included in the device as it encodes the sound and probably has amplifier to bring the sound lively but is just presumption. One also said that it may bring side effects that is why we can see the picture portraying a scientist wearing goggle or eye protector. This can be a fair feedback as one of the challenge needed to be anticipated during it's development.
Societies today, thirst of ultimate entertainment and this mission must be carried out to the nest level. There will be one day where we can benefit the technology to the fullest in every sectors including education, security, communication and business. That's right my brothers, I may agree with your points.
